Assistive Technology in Action – Meet Elle

The Family Center on Technology and Disability (FCTD) and PACER Center are pleased to announce the release of our new assistive technology awareness series, AT in Action. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), this fully-captioned video series is designed to strengthen awareness of AT devices that help individuals with disabilities participate fully in school, at home, and in the community. In this second video, you’ll meet Elle O’Gorman, a young woman with cerebral palsy who, with the help of AT, is able to communicate with family, friends, and teachers. We invite you to view and share this video with your colleagues and the families you serve.

Is technology really ruining your life? | David Ellis | TEDxLancasterU

https://youtube.com/watch?v=mNKN4dHGQKg

It is almost impossible to avoid laptops, social media, emails, and smartphones.  Many of these technologies were developed to help organise our lives, while others promise to keep us fitter and happier for longer. But does all this technology have unintended consequences? David Ellis holds a 50th Anniversary Lectureship in Psychology at Lancaster University and an Honorary Research Fellowship at The University of Lincoln. Much of his work considers how recent methodological developments in technology and data collection (often referred to as digital traces) can reveal information about individuals and their behaviour. He has published on these topics in The Lancet Public Health, the International Journal of Neural Systems, Computers in Human Behavior, Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking and other journals. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
