Satellite business skyrockets, attracting global technology giants | DW News

Data from space will be key to unlocking new technical innovations in the future. Navigation, communication, earth observation. More satellites are delivering ever more data. The number of satellites circling the earth has skyrocketed in recent years. In 1959, there were just two satellites in orbit, but today, there are well over 3,000. And that’s just the beginning. Private companies are scrambling to conquer space at a rapid pace. Space X’s StarLink project alone has permission to put 12,000 satellites into orbit. In 10 years time, there could be at least 16,000 satellites in orbit. Five times as many as today. The rush to space is driven by falling prices. Twenty-five years ago, payload-cost-per-kilo was 22,000 euros. Today, it costs only a thousand euros. And those prices are expected to keep falling to less than 100 euros per kilo! No wonder then, that more and more companies are looking to the stars.

Construction of Units 5 & 6 of India’s Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNP) located in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district commenced on Tuesday (June 29).

Rosatom has all the most advanced nuclear power technologies. Together with our Indian colleagues we are ready to launch the serial construction of the state-of-the-art Generation III+ Russian-designed nuclear power units at a new site in India. It is stipulated by the existing agreements,” Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev stated during the ceremony.

In fact, did you know, the wheels that we use for transportation in vehicles, were originally not made for transportation but for pottery base? Shocking, right? And today it just takes a second to light a fire, but back in old age, it used to take about 15 hours, just to lit a fire! In fact, you know before the invention of pottery, stone-age men used to make vessels out of plain mud and give them shape by their own hands! And ever wondered how in old age, people made clothes?
