CATL Super Technology Day 2026 (better than BYD?)

CATL @CATLOfficial had their Technology Day just before the Beijing Auto Show.

Gen 3 Qilin (NCM/MNC chemistry):
The Premium Performance KingThe third-generation Qilin battery (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese chemistry) is designed for high-end, high-performance EVs.I nsane Charging Speeds: Features a peak charging rate of 15C and a steady effective rate of 10C, allowing a full charge in roughly 6 minutes. Advanced Safety: Uses “Thermal Electric Isolation” and dedicated venting channels to ensure no fire propagation if a cell fails. Condensed Battery Tech: A “semi-solid state” style battery reaching 350 Wh/kg, capable of powering luxury sedans for up to 1,500 km (CLTC).Track Performance: A dedicated “Track Version” can discharge at a massive 3,000 kW, doubling previous maximum outputs.2.

Shenxing Gen 3:
The Mass Market Disruptor. The Shenxing battery is CATL’s Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) solution aimed at making ultra-fast charging affordable for everyone.
Beating the Benchmarks: It can charge from 10% to 98% in just 6 minutes and 27 seconds—faster than BYD’s latest Blade 2 batteries. Winter Warrior: Even at -30°C, it can charge from 20% to 98% in only 9 minutes using a specialized “self-heating” pulse signal. Longevity: Maintains over 90% capacity after 1,000 full charging cycles.3.

Naxtra: Sodium-Ion:
CATL is moving Sodium-ion batteries into GWh-scale mass production. The “Dual-Star” Strategy: Sodium-ion (Naxtra) will coexist with Lithium-ion, dominating entry-level vehicles and grid storage where cost and temperature stability matter more than density. Durability: These cells can last for 15,000 cycles .Production: Full mass production is expected by Q4 2026.

Freevoy Gen 2: The “Super Hybrid”
The Freevoy battery aims to eliminate the “hybrid compromise” for PHEVs and EREVs. Mixed Chemistry: CATL is now blending NCM and LFP materials at a micrometer powder level within the same cells to balance power and cost. EV-Like Range: Offers up to 600 km of pure electric range, with a total combined range of 2,000 km (CLTC).5. Choco Swapping & Smart Grids.

Battery swapping isn’t dead; it’s evolving into an energy management tool. Rapid Swaps: The “CHOCO-swap” system can change a battery in 99 seconds. Infrastructure: CATL aims to have 4,000 swap stations in China by the end of 2026.
